About me

Assalamu alaykum!

My name is Hanan and I’m an American, Muslim girl! I was born and raised in Fresno, California. I graduated from UCLA with Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in biochemistry. Then I got an MD-PhD from the Tri-Institutional program in New York City. I am now an anesthesiology research resident at the University of Washington in Seattle.

I love sports, traveling, and adventures! I also like to write poetry and short stories. When I’m not working, you can find me going for long walks in the park and reflecting on the fundamental meaning of the universe, or some other philosophical question, depending on the energy of that particular day. I’m happily single, and I take frequent road trips, alone or with friends, out of the city for mental relaxation.

My favorite videogame right now is Apex: Legends, I almost always play a support role, but I’m also a huge Fire Emblem fan – I’ve been playing them since the Gameboy Advance versions. I also love Disney and classic anime series.

I’m constantly reflecting on what my purpose in life is, but if I could influence people in a positive way, and focus on spreading good, I would consider that a win. I’m obviously a practicing Muslim, hence the name of the blog, but I believe in non-judgmental acceptance of others, especially my fellow Muslim brothers and sisters. We all practice in our own ways and what people see is only an incomplete picture: as it does not reveal what is in our hearts.
